Our Early Years setting provides a safe and nurturing environment which inspires children, valuing their individual interests and abilities. Our specifically designed EYFS area provides a vibrant and engaging learning environment where the children have the opportunity to embrace all aspects of the Early Years Curriculum, both inside the classroom and out.
The principles which guide the work of all Early Years practitioners are grouped into four themes:
A Unique Child – every child is a competent learner from birth, who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or their key person.
Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning and Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
The curriculum is divided into prime and specific areas of learning. The curriculum is taught through short topics which form the focus for each half term. We keep parents informed of the topics being taught over the year with a curriculum overview each half term and weekly summaries of learning.
Prime areas
Communication and language
Physical development
Personal, social and emotional development
Specific areas
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding of the world
Expressive arts and design
Often activities are play based, but these are often guided so that they have a planned learning outcome.
We aim to ensure that children are motivated, viewing activities as relevant to them, and that learning is fun.
