Welcome to the Barn Owls page and a new school year.
This half term, we are learning all about the Stone Age to Iron Age. We will be finding out lots of historical details, looking at evidence and asking questions about how archaeologists have discovered our past history.
We will be using different stories to inspire our writing, including Stone Age Boy and Stig of the Dump.
Next half term, we will be finding out about the Victorians and life as a Victorian child, through different stories including Streetchild.
We will be developing our scientific understanding of rocks and animals, including humans.
As part of our 100 memorable experiences we will be working with a visiting artist and enjoying time around a campfire.
Maths homework will be set using CGP maths books; with study guides to re-visit topics at home and develop clearer understanding.
Spelling rules and times tables are tested weekly and scores are recorded in the Home/School Diary.
Children are also expected to read regularly at home; this is an enormously important activity which improves understanding and helps our children to gain further insight into all reading in school. We ask that this is noted down in their Home/School diary, where children who read every day will be entered into a weekly draw in assembly, with a small prize.
There will also be optional activities for further learning at home, which involve learning with others, independent research and creative constructions. We are happy to discuss any queries you may have about homework, please call in and make an appointment. Thank you in advance for all your support with learning at home.
We will be keeping active this term on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, taking part in gymnastics and dance topics. Our P.E. kit is a white top, black shorts/joggers and trainers. Please ensure that all clothing is named clearly inside.
We aim to 'Work Hard, Play Hard' in Barn Owls and on Friday afternoon you could catch us having a few minutes of 'Golden Time’ if we're lucky (and only if we've earned it!) We also have a 'Star of the Week' awarded in assembly on a Friday, and an 'Oscar' in class to celebrate our successes.
The Barn Owls team all look forward again this term to working in partnership with you, as part of your child's education. We are always glad of the fantastic support, both in terms of volunteering help with trips, reading, art etc, together with the essential support offered to children to complete maths homework, spelling and times table practice and making time for regular, quality reading.
Natale Andrew, Rebecca Paterson and our fantastic teaching assistant, Katherine Grottick.
